Changing Your Diet for your Destiny

God is concerned about our diet - Not just physically, but spiritually. The world has been on a health initiative kick for quite some time and we have been focusing on what we consume. Although I think this is great, we cannot neglect what is necessary for our destiny.

Spiritually, The concept of destiny, speaks to the divine plan and will of God for one's life. Anything that is destined has been set in stone to come to pass. This has been set and marked in the Heavens and it will be established in the Earth. Now, some things in our life can shift and impact our destiny based on our decisions, but some things regarding your destiny have been set and marked in stone.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. - Psalm 139:16 NLT

It takes not only a special design to walk the line of your destiny, but it also takes a special diet. This week, God spoke to us about our crazing for truth. In order for us to become lovers of truth, we have to examine the things we crave. What we crave and our response to those cravings can really set us up for success or failure.

Do you remember having to take standardized tests in school? One of the main instructions were to make sure you did, what?!?!?....... Eat a Balanced Breakfast in the morning. The concept behind this instruction was to make sure that our bodies were fueled for the journey of tests ahead. It wasn't just one test, it was multiple tests in a day. This could wear one person out, if they went without any type of fuel. Many of us are struggling in our journey of destiny, inclusive of tests and trials, because we are not properly nourished for what is DESTINED to take place in our lives.

I remember over the last several years when the word of the Lord to me was about being properly nourished for where I was going. The crazy thing about receiving those words were that I had a glimpse, but I did not understand why my diet mattered so much. I mean, I liked what I like and I like food! Although comical, I realize that God is serious about us being able to make impact and having longevity in our assignment. He does not set us off on a journey for us to either not fulfill the assignment or to die trying. He sets us off and staff us with what we need to be successful and impactful for what is ahead. As much as we WANT to be healthy for a long and vibrant life physically, We NEED you fueled for a prosperous and impactful life spiritually.

While I was sitting in meditation this week, my mind crossed about three hinderances that war against our movement towards our appropriate diet for destiny.

#1: The first hinderance was our lack of knowledge about our destiny.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. - Hosea 4:6

We arrived on this Earth, just living life, and growing up without knowledge of our purpose. It comes to a point where we start asking the question, WHY? Most of the time, the question of our existence comes because life is getting a little harder, we are a little more responsible, and the worth/ value of life seems to be a little more questionable. We are really trying to figure out if this is something we want to continue to deal with. The question of purpose and value comes from us obtaining understanding around our destiny. Considering that the Lord is the author and finisher of our faith, we need to inquire of the writings in HIS book concerning our days. There are some things set to take place and we are going to journey there - whether we are ready, strong for it, nourished well in advanced, or not. The question comes in, do you know what's ahead, so you will know how to prepare?!?!

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit tells us of things that are to come. These things He has heard from heaven. (John 16: 13) So, we are told in advance for preparation, nourishment, and positioning. What you do with that information determines how wise you are. It is our responsibility to go after the knowledge of our destiny so that we are not destroyed along the journey. God has great plans for us all. We need to go after that which He has planned for our lives.

#2: The second hinderance that I have learned is our willingness to change our diet. It is not easy to have to change anything; let alone, change things you may have loved in a previous season. This is the challenge of our hearts. So, we have to evaluate what we treasure most. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. " - Matthew 6:21. With all that is happening in the world, our only saving grace is getting our hearts in order and making the main thing, the main thing. Our inability to do this, will cause us to forfeit our destiny and this is not something that we want to do.

For clarity sake, I will add that forfeiting your destiny is not only about skipping out on what has been established concerning you alone. It also means that you won't find much successful, as it is already ordained for you to. In the end, we are to obtain the victory that Jesus died for us to live in. However, choosing to remain hindered can keep you from the promises set for you to have. You gotta remember, destiny is your promise! It is an end you can expect!

#3: Once you know who you are and what you need... the question arises, " ...how can I successfully change my diet... and maintain it?!?! " That is such a great question and it can be very challenging! So, I was able to gather 3 simple tips for you to implement that can help you shift your spiritual diet and maintain it. Here we go:

  1. Make One Small Change At A Time!

It is so important that you do not put yourself in shock, trying to do a complete overhaul. Many have done this physically, but you can also do this spiritually. It is important for your success and longevity in this transformation that you take it one small change at at time. In reality, life and its' demands may try to pressure you to move faster, but this journey is a marathon, not a race. Find out what is your pace is and move in it. Ask yourself these questions:

  • How much of this shift can I handle at this time?

  • Is it simply adding one more chapter to your bible reading time a day?

  • It is spending an extra 5-10 mins sitting in the presence of the Lord?

  • Is it fasting until noon? * Skipping a physical meal, but adding prayer and God's word.

These are just some small start questions, that can get you going. This is not the end all, be all. As a matter of fact, you can add some below in the comments of this blog; so that others can grow in understanding how they can think this through.

  1. Give yourself time - Take 3 -7s!

It will take time to change anything, so give yourself that time. Be patient with yourself because it will not happen overnight. My suggestion is to always give yourself 3 full, 7 days consistently for changes .... and yes, you guess'd it! That's 21 days total. Any change or habit, big or small will take 21 days for it to be established. This is not just a mental thing.. it is a physical thing as well. It takes your stomach 21 days to align with any new shifts and changes... same thing with our mind and heart. The cycle of change is 21 days. So, don't overwhelm yourself with the pressure of overnight shifts... there are none! Some days will be better than others but give yourself the consistency of 3 - 7s to establish a new law in your being.

  1. Discipline Impulse!

"So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." - Galatians 5:16. Now, this may seem like a very difficult task to fulfill, but God did not give this instruction to us as a suggestion for better living. This is a command. We are to live in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, Worship in the Spirit, and obey His Spirit! This is our way of life! This is not a lifestyle! Lifestyles change with seasons and age; but a discipline of life is your culture.

So, how do you discipline your impulse? You starve it! James 4:7 tells us to "... submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." We generally think our impulse is such a natural response and we have been trained to heed and listen to it. As new creatures in the Lord, maturing into the stature of Jesus Christ, we have to build a discipline to RESIST. Our resistance to impulse is a muscle that we must build.

Now, in order to build muscle, you have to engage in resistance training. This means that whatever desires that arises to satisfy the flesh, we cast it down and give no attention to it. Our impulses are generally driven by flesh and our flesh is a enemy to God (Romans 8:7-8). So, we have to take authority over the flesh continuously. This is a way of life we must implement. We cannot take that authority, but by walking in the Spirit. It takes the Spirit of the Lord to help you discern your flesh from His Spirit, especially if you have indulged in your flesh for too long. So, you must set your heart to live life in the Spirit and let the Holy Spirit build that discipline in you!

I cannot stress this enough! It will take consistency and time; but with the Lord's help, you will be able to do it!

Praying for You, as we all move into this new space in God,

Apostle Raine
